For those of you who are looking for a quiet and peaceful corner in Paris, visit Jardin des Plantes. It has the perfect balance of everything you can ask for in a Parisian garden, plus – flamingos! I for one, didn’t expect to see flamingos in Paris, but this city always finds a way to surprise me.
There’s quite a lot to do in Jardin des plantes so you might need to prioritize what you want to see the most, or come back a different day. There’s the garden area that’s open to public all year long, with a traditional French design. There’s the zoo section which I recommend the most. It’s truly unique. I am not a big fan of taking wild animals out of their natural habitat, but it really seems like the animals have enough space and the artificial environment looks very natural. Overall, they seem pretty happy there.
There’s also a complex of greenhouses with a wide selection of huge plants. For someone with a severe plant addiction like myself, this is absolutely plant heaven. Palms, Cactuses, Monstera’s and many more.
Another thing worth checking are the galleries. There’s a geology and minerology gallery, paleontology and anatomy, an evolution gallery and also special temporary exhibitions. On top of all that, there is also a library and a virtual reality cabinet. But I don’t see why would anyone want to escape reality in a magical place like this.
The 5th arrodissement is in itself an amazing area to explore, but that’s all for now.
I hope you enjoy another day in Paris!
